The Sportspark will take the normal monthly Direct Debit for Gold and Silver cardholders at the end of June. The July payment will be reduced on a pro rata basis for the days the pool was closed. During the pool closure Gold and Silver members will be able to use the Fitness Centre as normal, without charge and also receive standard discounts on all other Sportspark facilities.
Keith Nicholls, Director of Physical Education and Sport at Sportspark, says;
“We are committed to ensuring the pool is in its best condition and has long-term sustainability for our users, and with a tear in the pool liner just on the water line in the far end wall (caused by deterioration of the material in the sunlight) we must take action to fully fix the temporary repairs we have already made to keep the pool open as long as possible.
As the only 50 metre pool in the East of England the pool hosts many regional and local galas which the City of Norwich Swimming Club swimmers have been training for. We have delayed the work as long as possible to minimise disruption of their training and to allow us to host these galas. This has ensured that the closure takes place outside the competitive and training programme for the majority of swimmers.
To replace the liner we also need to drain the pool. During this time we will take the opportunity to install a new water circulation system into the sides of the pool to replace the existing system that it is in the pool floor, which will upgrade and ensure longevity of our facilities in the future.
We have endeavoured to close the pool for this essential maintenance work at a time that will cause the least disruption to regular pool users and swimming clubs. However, we are aware that it will cause inconvenience to some of our customers for which we apologise.”
