Fitness Centre
The Sportspark air conditioned fitness centre has 80 equipment stations from Technogym and Concept 2, a free weights area and cardio-theatre with three TV and four music channels.

As from May 2009 we have welcomed Rachael Pellatt as our new Fitness Centre Manager. If you have any queries or questions about the Fitness Centre and the services it offers she can be contacted on r.pellatt@uea.ac.uk

Rachael is responsible for the Fitness Advisors, who are all Sports graduates, together with Rachael they are able to offer a wide ranging professional service.


Fitness Centre / Where
Sportspark has a state of the art Fitness Centre on the ground floor.

Fitness Centre / When
The Fitness Centre is open 7 days per week. Normal opening hours are 0745 to 2220, however, Gold Cardholders can access from 0630 (Monday to Friday and 0700 at weekends).

The Fitness Centre is only available to people aged 16 years and over. Exceptions to this do occur, however this needs to be done with agreement from the Director of PE and Sport.

For safety and insurance purposes all users are required to undertake an Induction by one of our Fitness Advisors before using the Fitness Centre. These can be booked through Reception either in person or on 01603 592398 option 2.

Once you have completed the Induction you may start to use the Fitness Centre. There are several price options for you, with pay as you go right upto our premium Gold Card which offers unlimited fitness centre usage alongside unlimited swimming for just £32.00 per month.

If you require further help and advice we offer five programmes (Starter Programme, Personal Programme, Health Programme, Fitness Programme and a Combined Programme ).

Programme Descriptives

Starter Programme
An hour session which entails a meeting with the Fitness Advisor who draws up a specific individualised programme card for your future use.

Personal Programme
One to one session with a fitness advisor to enable you to meet your health and fitness aims and objectives. You will have a programme card designed, which you can follow each time you come into the Fitness Centre. This programme also includes measurement of height, weight, body composition and blood pressure.

Health Programme
Personal programme PLUS nutritional advice, lifestyle information and a full written report.

Fitness Programme
Personal programme PLUS grip strength, leg and back strength and a full written report.

Combined Programme
Combines all the aspects of the Health and the Fitness Programmes.

One 2 One Sessions
Why not try one of these sessions? It is an hour with your own personal advisor...this is just perfect for those of you who exercise but may just need that little bit of an extra push or just a bit of advice. Our Fitness Advisor can help motivate, check your technique and most importantly train you in a more effective way ~ perfect for the time when you may be in a bit of a lull or if you are looking to get the right start to your training regime.


Fitness Centre Do’s
• Leave all coats/bags, etc in a dry-side locker (20p returnable deposit)
• Bring a small towel
• Wear appropriate sports clothing at all times (no jeans)
• Ensure footwear is clean and non-marking
• Clean equipment after use using spray and cloths provided
• Inform a Fitness Advisor if you feel faint or light-headed
• Use safety collars on free weights at all times
• Remove weights evenly from both sides of the bars
• Use a spotter is required
• Ask if you need any help /advice

Fitness Centre Don'ts
• Wear outdoor shoes
• Bring mobile phones into the Fitness Centre
• Bring glass or open drink containers
• Chew gum or bring food
• Jump over/climb under the turnstile
• Remove weights from the large matted area
• Remove benches from their designated areas
• Leave weights on the bars after you have finished
• Reserve or monopolise equipment.



Fitness Centre 'On The Pulse'
The Fitness Centre produces a monthly newsletter called 'On The Pulse'. This provides our customers with upto date information on anything to do with health and fitness with past subjects being sports nutrition, workout of the month and fitness myths.
