Sportspark Car Parking Policy
In light of the ongoing issues regarding appropriate use of the SP car park we have introduced a new barrier system that is now live. We have listened carefully to all of the comments that we have received regarding how we can improve matters and we would like to draw your attention to the processes we would now like you to adopt:
The Sportspark car park is for Bona Fide Sportspark customers ONLY. Please note that UEA Students and UEA staff are not allowed to park in the Sportspark car park at any time - even if you are using Sportspark facilities.
Customers are required to take a ticket from the barrier on arrival and will now be able to validate this ticket at reception either on arrival or at the time of departure. You may be requested to provide proof of SP membership or activity purchase to get your ticket validated. If you are dropping off, there is a grace period of 20 minutes and you can leave the car park without charge. We do offer one exception whereby staff and student blue badge holders can access the Sportspark disabled car park bays for the period of their activity (and not for time associated with attending the university for work or studies). To register for access, staff and students simply need to bring a copy of their current blue badge certificate on their first visit so we can update their status on our access control system.
Therefore if you are not a customer or do not have a valid reason for being in our car park and try to exit the car park without a valid ticket, you will not be allowed to exit. You will have to re-park, return to the centre, validate your ticket and if necessary pay a penalty charge (based on the £5 hourly rate). This will take up yours and other customer's time, so we request that you are mindful of Sportspark's parking policy.
Customers are allowed up to 4 hours free parking whilst taking part in their activity.
If you exceed the 4 hour period, then to exit, you will pay a charge of £5 for every hour or part thereof, that you remain in the car park before your ticket is validated.
To assist us in ensuring use of the car park conforms to the fair practices you have been asking for, we will have parking enforcement staff on duty in our car park at various times of day who will issue Parking Charge Notices (PCN’s) to offenders who do not comply with our terms and conditions that are clearly displayed in our car park. Please note we are monitoring your use based on the key issues you have raised which are related to parking inappropriately in disabled bays, as well as parking on double yellow lines or incorrectly within marked bays. These poor parking etiquette issues are dealt with by our parking agent – Norfolk Parking Enforcement.
NB: Due to width of the driveways & requirements for emergency access within our car park, nobody will be allowed to park on the yellow lines marked, which includes blue badge holders.
Sportspark parking availability
As you will know the Sportspark car park is available to all our users during our opening hours. Please be aware that the main UEA car park adjacent to the Sportspark is available also. However it is important you note that using the main UEA car park during the day will result in you paying a fee to validate the token to enable you to exit the car park. Should you park after 4.30pm Monday to Friday and at any time over the weekends, the token validation unit inside the main Sportspark reception will enable you to validate your token without paying a fee.
NB: We will not tolerate abuse of our system or aggressive/abusive behaviour towards Sportspark or UEA staff and will operate a zero tolerance policy with regards to any breaches of this request.
A PDF copy of this policy can be found on our About us page within the Policy Statements section.
