Centre of Excellence
Centre of Excellence

Sportspark, in conjunction and co-operation with Governing Bodies of Sport, Sport England, Local Authorities and other Agencies, aims to be the local and regional Centre for Sporting Excellence.

Sportspark will combine activity throughout the Sports Development continuum to develop the Norfolk County Centre of Excellence focusing on four key areas:

Heartbeat
Coaches Training Centre
Sports Bursaries

Coaching Centre

The Centre for Sports Coaching and Training based within the Sportspark provides support services for qualified coaches and teachers through a coach development programme.

Sportspark has been classified a National Coaching Foundation Premier Coaching Site and hosts workshops from beginner levels through to Advanced levels.

The programmes are developed in conjunction with County and Regional Governing Bodies for Sport, Local Authorities and the Local Education Authority. Sportspark has also developed a partnership agreement with Norfolk County Council Adult Education in order to ensure the courses are promoted to the community.

The Coaching Centre offers a dedicated room for the workshops and master classes, with full audio-visual equipment and presentational aids.

If you have any requests concerning the courses on offer, please contact David Cosford (Assistant Director of Physical Education and Sport) on (01603) 593482. If enough interest is shown we will endeavour to host any appropriate coaching course.

Sports Bursaries

Pursuing a successful sporting career whilst trying to balance gaining a good education can be a very costly time and students benefit enormously from many different areas of support.

National/International athletes require support over and above that recognised by the average performer. Specialist support services are available at UEA such as:

• Sports Science support (e.g., Physiological fitness assessments)
• Training advice
• Specialist training sessions (e.g., plyometrics, sprinting, strength & power)
• Nutritional support
• Physiotherapy service
• Regular coaching clinics

The University offers Sports Bursaries to UEA students who demonstrate sporting prowess alongside their academic ability. Bursaries of up to £1000 are available for successful candidates. Bursaries are mainly available for students competing in the identified Focus Sports.
