NEW lead climbing course.
The aim of this course is to teach you and your partner how to lead climb safely and enjoyably in an indoor climbing wall environment. Lead climbing can deliver much greater levels of satisfaction than bottom rope climbing, because it demands more of a climber than just physical strength and technique. The course is led by Dave Reeve who has over 28 years of climbing experience on indoor climbing walls and on Sport/Trad routes in the UK and abroad. Dave is still a keen climber and as well as being an instructor he sets routes at several local climbing walls. The course structure will be delivered over 3 x 2 hour sessions with a maximum 1:4 instructor to student ratio and will start with the instructor evaluating the climbing and belaying ability of you and your partner in a bottom rope environment.
You and your partner should be able to demonstrate that you can safely belay and lower each other and that you are able to climb in a consistent and confident manner on a bottom rope. We would expect that you have been climbing for around 6 months and have made a significant number of visits to a climbing wall. You'll need climbing shoes, a chalk bag and your own harness. The course will be taught using a traditional belay device such as the DMM Mantis or Bug; assisted braking devices such as the Gri Gri are not covered in this course. Lead ropes and belay devices will be supplied for use during the course.
Course start dates & times:
Friday 5th May - 18:30-20:30
Sunday 7th May - 10:00-12:00
The price of this course is Member: £75, Non-Member £90. Bookable now at reception.
