Steven Barnes - Success at 2015 Adelaide ITU Duathlon World Championships

We’re very pleased to hear of Steven Barnes success at the recent 2015 Adelaide ITU Duathlon World Championships.  We’re proud to support Steven by providing him with free training access to Sportspark.

Steven commented “I managed to come 4th in my age group and the 1st Brit in my age group. This automatically qualifies me for next year’s World Championships which will be in Spain. I was only 17 seconds off the bronze medal so I have mixed views about how well I have done. I have been struggling with an Achilles injury, so once I get that sorted, I hope to be amongst the medal winners at the Euros and the Worlds next year.

At one stage, coming off the bike, I was in gold medal position but again the injury jeopardised my second run a bit.

One thing that I did before I left home for Australia was to write on a piece of paper what I wanted to achieve and put this in a sealed envelope for my wife to open after the race. It read:

1st Brit in age group.
Bronze medal.

I guess one out of two isn’t bad and I should be happyish as I only started all this run-bike-run malarkey in January. But to be honest I’m not. I should have at least had the bronze medal, and looking at my times at previous races leading up to the Championships, I probably could have achieved silver.  Well it’s all fuel for the fire for next year!”

On behalf of all the team at Sportspark we wish Steven the very best of luck for his future competitions.
