About Archery
Step into the world of archery at Sportspark! Our hall-based sessions take place on our sprung wooden floors, offering a safe and supportive environment for all levels. Whether you’re trying a taster session or joining a beginner’s course, our qualified and experienced coaches guide you through the fundamentals of stance, aim, and release. Over a typical four-week course, you’ll develop your skills and work towards hitting the Bull’s Eye, all while enjoying a fun and engaging sport that improves focus, coordination, and concentration.

Archery Courses
Our Archery courses are perfect for adults and young people aged 12 and over who want to try archery for the first time or improve their existing skills.
Led by qualified archery instructors, the course is designed to help archers of all ages build confidence and ability.
Our archery courses consist of four 90-minute sessions over four weeks. During the course, you will learn the key techniques for firing accurate arrows, understand important safety guidelines, and take part in a variety of fun activities, games, and challenges to develop your skills and test yourself along the way.

Meet the Teachers
Meet the experienced instructors who make archery at Sportspark both welcoming and rewarding. Our qualified coaches are here to guide you through every step, from your first shot on the range to refining your technique and building confidence. Whether you’re picking up a bow for the first time or looking to improve your aim, you’ll be in safe, supportive hands.
Max Roantree
Max has been an archer for 14 years and is completely obsessed with the sport. Inspired by fictional archers like Legolas, he leaped at the first opportunity to try archery and quickly discovered a lifelong passion. Since then, he has continued to train and compete, now taking part in the National Tour against some of the country’s top archers. Archery is a huge part of his life, and when he’s not competing, he can often be found officiating as a tournament judge, organising events, or volunteering with clubs across Norfolk to help other archers learn and improve.
He began coaching at 16, mentoring younger archers at his local club, and continued this passion at university. With encouragement from his coach, he achieved his coaching qualification in 2022 and became a fully licensed coach. Looking ahead, he plans to progress even further by pursuing a higher-level coaching qualification. For Max, archery is the ultimate sport because the only person you need to beat is your previous self, and the only feeling that matches personal progress is seeing others recognise their own.
Kieran Newell-Thomas
Keiran first discovered archery while studying at UEA and joining the university club. Since then, he has thrown himself into every opportunity that’s come his way. When the chance arose to qualify as a coach, he saw it as a way to give something back to the club that introduced him to the sport and its amazing community. He has been coaching since 2022 and loves helping others learn the sport he’s so passionate about, watching their skills and enthusiasm grow. His proudest moment as a coach was leading the UEA Beginners Team coaching programme in the year they became champions of the South-East Universities Novice League.
He has been an archer for a number of years and has achieved some fantastic milestones in that time. In his final year at university, he earned a sports scholarship after placing fourth at the National University Indoor Championships. He went on to win medals at events across East Anglia and represented Norfolk as part of the county team at the National Inter County Championships.
Keiran loves archery because every arrow feels like a new opportunity to learn, whether it’s solving the puzzle of a misplaced shot or testing new ways to refine his technique. Poor performances only motivate him further, pushing him to develop both mentally and physically and continue improving on and off the range.
