About Climbing
Sportspark’s Climbing Wall is a unique space in the heart of our main foyer, a bright, welcoming area that features both a roped wall and a dedicated bouldering cave.
Whether you’re new to climbing or looking to develop your skills, we offer:
Casual climbing for registered climbers
Beginner and improver courses to help you learn the basics
Social sessions for relaxed, friendly climbs
Private sessions for tailored coaching
Junior Climbing Club and Junior Climbing Academy for young climbers
Our team of qualified instructors are here to help you climb safely, confidently, and at your own pace.
Please note: If your climbing registration has been expired for 3 months or longer, you’ll need to complete a new assessment before using the wall again.
Start Your Climbing Journey
For Experienced Climbers
If you’ve climbed before and are confident with roped climbing and belaying, you’ll need to complete a Climbing Assessment to register for casual climbing sessions.
Assessments run every:
Tuesday at 18:45
Saturday at 13:00
All assessments must be booked via Reception on 01603 592398.
During your assessment, our instructor will check your ability to:
Put on a harness correctly
Tie in safely
Belay and lower a climber
Identify potential hazards
Answer basic safety questions
Agree to Sportspark’s climbing terms & conditions
Once you’ve passed your assessment, you’ll be registered to use the wall for casual climbing.
For Beginner Climbers
If you’re new to climbing, our Beginner Courses are the best place to start.
You’ll learn essential techniques in a safe and supportive environment — no experience required.
We offer:

Junior Beginner Climbing Courses for younger climbers

Junior Climbing
Junior Climbing Club
Our Junior Climbing Club is perfect for young climbers (under 16) who have completed both our Beginner and Improver climbing courses.
Led by our qualified instructors, each session helps juniors:
Build confidence and refine their climbing skills
Take on new challenges with expert guidance
Prepare to progress into our Climbing Academy

Saturdays: 09:30–11:00 and 11:15–12:45
Thursdays: 17:00–18:30
Cost and membership:
Annual club registration: £5
Participants must hold a valid Sportspark Junior Membership card
These supportive, skill-focused sessions help young climbers develop strength, confidence, and a love for the sport.
Junior Climbing Academy
Our Junior Climbing Academy is for experienced climbers (under 16) who are ready to take their skills to the next level.
Led by our qualified climbing instructors, these sessions focus on:
Developing advanced climbing techniques
Tackling new and challenging routes
Building strength, confidence, and problem-solving skills

Private Climbing
Whether you’re completely new to climbing or looking to improve your technique, our private climbing sessions are a great way to get tailored guidance. Working one-to-one with an experienced instructor, you can focus on the skills you want to develop at a pace that suits you.
SIMON SERGENT
Simon is an RCI-qualified instructor with 25 years of climbing experience, teaching both indoors and outdoors. He regularly heads to the Peaks and other climbing spots around the UK, keeping his skills sharp and his passion strong.
He offers 1:1 private climbing sessions and has been a familiar face at Sportspark for years—working with our Kids Climbing Clubs for 7–8 years and coaching the Climbing Academy for the past 6.
Simon has completed the BMC’s FUNdamentals of Climbing 1 and 2, as well as their Physical Training 1 course. His relaxed and confident coaching style puts climbers at ease, whether you’re just starting out or looking to push your limits.
Every session with Simon is tailored to you—perfect for beginners or more experienced climbers looking for a focused training plan.

Erik Sergeant
Erik is a CWI-qualified climbing instructor who started his climbing journey right here at the Sportspark. He’s been climbing for over 12 years and now climbs to a high level both indoors and outdoors. He works with our Kids Clubs and Climbing Academy and is also available for private sessions.
Erik brings a fun and relaxed coaching style to the wall while always keeping safety a top priority.
Whether you’re a nervous beginner or a more experienced climber who’s hit a plateau, Erik is here to help you progress with confidence.

Oliver Nicholson
Oliver is a qualified CWDI, CWIA and CWI instructor. He has also completed the BMC’s FUNdamentals of Climbing 1 and 2, along with Foundation Coach Training. He has experience climbing both indoors and outdoors.
Oliver can teach everything from basic safety to more advanced climbing techniques, supporting climbers from beginner level through to lead climbing. He also speaks French.

Climbing Timetable
We are currently operating our Term Time Open Climb timetable.
Our timetables run in accordance to Norfolk County Council school term dates. Please find here: Term dates and school holidays 2025-2026 – Norfolk County Council
All climbers wishing to use the wall during ‘Open Climb’ sessions must either be a registered climber, that has completed a climbing wall induction, or be a guest and under the supervision of that individual.
Where the wall is open for open climbing you can come and climb at any time within this session. However should we reach capacity during any session we will implement a maximum of 2 hours climbing rule.
We can also not guarantee that 2 hours of climbing will be achieved.
